International Volunteer Managers Day
What is Excellence? Pushing us beyond the ordinary
International Volunteer Managers Day is an international event held annually on 5 November. It offers the opportunity to stop and reflect on the often-invisible line of work that is volunteer management, which enables our community to thrive.
The 2021 theme “What is Excellence? – Pushing us beyond the ordinary”, provides a space for us to reflect upon what ‘excellence’ really means for the volunteer management profession.
2021 International Volunteer Managers Day Competition
To celebrate this year’s International Volunteer Managers Day, VolunteeringACT hosted a competition that saw one lucky Manager and/or Coordinator of Volunteers receive a $250 gift card to Buy from the Bush – an online marketplace supporting remote and rural businesses to sell their products.
To enter, Canberra managers and coordinators of Volunteers had to tell us in 50 words or less what excellence in volunteer management looks like to them!
Congratulations to our Volunteer Managers Day Competition Winner

“It looks like connecting with your volunteers on a genuine level, ensuring that the program you are offering suits both your needs and theirs, ensuring the space is friendly and safe for all participants. It means communicating clearly and regularly and making them feel welcome and appreciated”
Buy From The Bush is a marketplace for Australian bush business, and acts as a gateway to rural and regional Australia. Buy from the Bush brings together makers in small rural communities across Australia, and makes it easy for small businesses to sell their products and for consumers to shop with purpose.
